For passengers between the ages of 4 and 14 departing for national and international destinations, traveling alone or with an accompanying minor or accompanied by an adult on a different travel class, the "Unaccompanied Minor" service is mandatory. Minor passengers traveling alone and over the age to use the compulsory service can request the activation of the service: "Voluntary Unaccompanied Minor". HOW CAN I REQUEST UNACCOMPANIED MINOR ASSISTANCE? During the first step of booking process, it is necessary enter the following details of the unaccompained minor: name, surname, address and telephone number of adult who will take the minor to the departure airport and the one who will receive the minor at destination. The cost of the service is $ 110/130 each way. ONCE AT THE CHECK-IN DESK, WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE? It is required to be at check-in desk two hours before departure time. The minor will be welcomed by ground staff and with an airport appointee he/she will be escorted up to the gate for boarding; then he/she will be entrusted to the cabin crew responsible which will look after him/her during the whole flight. The person who dropped off the child at the airport must stay until 30 minutes after take off in order to remain available in case of a flight cancellation. At the destination airport handling agent will guide the minor through baggage claim and the arrival area until he/she rejoins his/her parents. Children travelling alone assistance will be re-confirmed by the airline before departure.
Parents are entitled to verify the correct documentation and the proxy needed for transportation. For an Italian minor (less than 14 years old) travelling abroad alone, a special declaration issued by the relevant Italian Police office is required. In this declaration (“atto di affido”) should clearly appear the name of the deputy to whom the minor is entrusted (could be an adult or the air carrier) and it has to be signed by the parents or legal guardian. This rule applies for all Italian minors including those holding both Italian and alien passports. In case of irregularity and lack of required documents, boarding will be refused
